Leigh A. Hackett
Leigh has over 30 years international experience in the energy sector having had senior management and board positions within the oil and gas, hydrocarbon processing and thermal power generation sectors. As such he has a broad view of the challenges facing the energy sector in an ever more carbon constrained world. He spent six years as the lead developer and then CEO of the White Rose full chain CCS project, a preferred bidder in the UK government’s CCS commercialisation programme. Leigh has an outstanding ability to develop practical technical and commercial solutions in highly complex project environments. He is a chartered chemical engineer having studied at the University of Manchester and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Saurabh has 20 years of international experience in the power generation sector having worked in a host of commercial and project management positions across the sector’s value chain. This includes working as the Commercial Development Director and Risk Manager for the White Rose full chain CCS project. Being an avid believer in the need to decarbonise the energy sector, Saurabh is committed to making clean energy an affordable reality. He accepts the challenges created by the uncertain environment today’s projects face and works towards overcoming them with long-term commercial objectives in mind and through deployment of robust and sustainable, solutions. He is a Mechanical Engineer having graduated from the University of Delhi.
Ulrich has over 25 years of broad experience in the energy sector, combining scientific excellence with hands-on experience in the design, start-up and operation of small and large-scale process plants. Ulrich has been at the core of numerous technology development and commercialisation initiatives and is the inventor or co-inventor of more than 40 patents in gas, petrochemical and carbon capture technology.
Ulrich started his career with Lurgi Öl-Gas-Chemie where he led its world-renowned gas technology division. In 2007, Ulrich joined Alstom leading the group’s global R&D task force for development of CCS technologies for power and industry. In 2016 he became Director of Technology at GasConTec focussing on large-scale methanol and ammonia synthesis technology.
Ulrich is a Dipl Ing. Industrial Engineer from the Technische Universität Darmstadt.
Juha has 20 years of experience developing sophisticated financial models for both project developments and transactions specializing in commercial structuring, raising non-recourse project finance debt, M&A and private equity investments. He has worked on projects located in several EU countries and the US.
Most recently Juha performed detailed financial modelling for the White Rose full chain CCS project and prepared the industrial carbon capture and storage (ICCS) financial framework cascading model for Teesside Collective.
Juha holds an MSc in Economics from Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland, an MSc in Energy, Environmental Technology and Economics, City University, London, UK and a CFA from the Swedish School of Economics, Hanken, Finland.
Robert has spent most of his working life in project and operational management with the majority of that in the power and industrial gas industries.
In the 1990s he worked on gas fired power stations and more recently he was Project Director Clean Energy for BOC Ltd, part of Linde AG. For three years he was seconded to Capture Power Ltd where he was Operations Director, part of the senior management team working on the White Rose full chain CCS project and responsible for all aspects of the technical delivery.
Robert is now focusing on providing project management services to clean energy projects. He is a chartered engineer with a Masters in Engineering from Cambridge University and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Hugh has more than 25 years’ international experience in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East in the power industry having worked for Alstom, GE and Eskom. He has had leading roles in operations management, large EPC projects sales, marketing and product development. Having worked closely with IPP developers, Hugh has gained extensive project development and financing experience.
Most recently Hugh was Director of Sales for Alstom/GE the lead OEM and EPC contractor for the White Rose CCS project, with responsibilities including establishment of bidding strategy, proposal development, costing, supplier engagement and contract negotiation.
Hugh graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand and is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa. In addition, he also holds an MBA from the Wits Business School.
Donald has over 25 years’ experience within the energy industry, covering the upstream oil and gas, gas storage and processing, and carbon capture and storage sectors. He has had leading roles in operations and asset management, and in early stage development of major capital projects including technical scoping, due diligence, risk management and project governance. As a consultant, he also has experience in executing and leading projects within the oil, gas and chemical processing industries for a variety of major international clients.
More recently he provided transport and storage (T&S) system expertise to the White Rose full chain CCS project, managing the delivery of the T&S FEED and supporting integration across the chain.
Donald is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. He holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, and an MBA, both from Cambridge University.
Staffan has spent most of his working life in project management and in the management of strategic business programmes in the power and chemical process industries.
Starting with process and project engineering roles with HPD Inc., Staffan quickly assumed project management responsibility for evaporation and crystallization installations in the US and Europe. Joining ABB/Alstom in 1999 as a project manager for gas turbine installations, he later became department head of the new equipment project business.
Following a move to the Alstom’s Environmental Control Systems division, Staffan was appointed as the programme manager for the Chilled Ammonia Process, the largest CCS technology development project within Alstom. Later he held Project Office Director roles in the Alstom and GE Power Services, with the responsibility for project risk management.
Staffan holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden and is a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Steve has over 28 years of experience in oil & gas, chemicals and process industries having worked as process and assurance lead for a range of international projects from early stage development through to execution and upgrades. His expertise includes process engineering, process analysis and design, performance and economic analysis as well as process safety and assurance. As an experienced HAZOP Facilitator Steve brings his broad Process and Safety analysis experience to bear on any project.
Some of the recent projects Steve has been involved in for IntecSea, CB&I and Jacobs involved gas processing, transport and storage, CO2 transport concept development as well as refinery expansion for major sector players. His environmental experience includes Flue Gas Desulphurisation, Amine, Sulphur and Sour Water units.
Steve has a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.
