With its focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Industria Mundum provides expertise in energy conversion, carbon capture and storage and carbon reuse in the power and energy intensive industrial sectors.

Low Carbon Energy

Guided by the principles of delivering sustainability, value for money and social responsibility, Industria Mundum has been established to promote the definition, development and delivery of low-carbon projects across the energy and manufacturing sectors. We are able to initiate low-carbon projects for development and to provide support to third party project developers across multiple sectors including power generation, sustainable fuels, hydrogen and synthesis gas, as well as energy intensive industry (EII) including petrochemicals, fertilisers, iron & steel and cement.

Energy Conversion

Energy storage in its many forms will constitute a key pillar of future energy networks. IM is focused on the storage of surplus or remote renewable energy in the form of chemical energy vectors like synthetic natural gas (SNG) and methanol. Clean hydrogen, produced from the electrolysis of water using renewable electricity can be combined with CO2, isolated from the waste gases of energy or industrial processes, to chemically synthesise these products. Carbon emissions reductions are achieved by offsetting or reducing demand for natural gas as a fuel or feedstock.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

IM has extensive experience in the development of full chain CCS projects, including CO2 transport and storage infrastructure, and the associated commercial and economic challenges. Based on experiences and lessons learned from the UK CCS commercialisation programme and the EU’s NER300 funding scheme, IM has unique insight into the these challenges and is able to bring real world solutions to resolve the difficulties that have delayed large scale CCS deployment across the world to date. These capabilities are equally valid for coal, gas (CCGT) and biomass fuelled power generation as well as industrial applications. By combining Bioenergy with CCS (BECCS) it is possible to achieve significant negative CO2 emissions.

Carbon Capture and Usage (CCU)

The re-use of CO2 for the production of useful products such as carbonates and urea can also provide a valuable contribution to achieving carbon emissions reduction targets. The single biggest re-use application is Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) using CO2 flooding techniques whereby large amounts of CO2 are permanently stored in the oil reservoir. Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR) could also provide significant future market capacity for CO2 usage. Through its understanding and experience in both oil & gas and power generation, IM has the ability to support developers of full or part chain CCS projects across these sectors.

Research continues to find new applications for the re-use of CO2 needing development expertise to reach commercialization. IM continually looks for opportunities in developing such technologies.
